Work out your WhatsApp cost
Open the WhatsApp message cost calculator. It is free, needs no sign-up and works on a phone.
Step 1: Pick your country and currency
Under Pick your country choose the Country or region and the Currency. Meta charges by the country where the receiving phone is registered, not where your restaurant is. The page shows Marketing, Utility and Service prices, and the international authentication price where Meta offers one.
Step 2: Choose the messages in an order
Under Six messages go out per order tick the messages you send: the reply to a customer's "hi", Order received, Order accepted, Order ready, Order dispatched and Order complete. The five order updates are always billed. The reply is a service message, and each WhatsApp number gets 1,000 of those free a month. Untick any you would not send.
Step 3: Enter your order value and volume
Enter your Average order value, Orders a month and WhatsApp numbers. The page then shows Messages per order, Free service messages a month, Paid messages a month and Cost a year, and the cost per order as a share of the order value.
Step 4: Try the lean setup
Under Cut the two in the middle, press Try it in the calculator. It unticks Order ready and Order dispatched and shows the saving. The customer follows the order on a tracking page instead, so between accepting and closing the order you send nothing.
